Galstaun College extended its child safe culture into digital spaces with Saasyan Assure, giving pastoral staff real time insights to protect and support students online.

Background

Galstaun College is Australia's only K-12 Armenian school, located in New South Wales. The college has a deeply rooted educational philosophy built on cultural preservation, weaving traditions such as dance, music, and historical reenactments into a curriculum centred on Armenian history and language.

As the college evolved to meet contemporary international standards, integrating digital technologies into teaching and learning became essential to enhancing both inclusivity and educational outcomes. The college embraced this evolution with purpose, but doing so raised a question that sits at the heart of every forward thinking school: how do you carry your child safe values into digital spaces with the same conviction you apply to the physical campus?

Problem

Galstaun College's commitment to child safety is woven into every aspect of its culture. The challenge was extending that same standard online. As students increasingly used digital devices for learning, including their own personal devices under a bring your own device (BYOD) model, the college needed a way to safeguard students across all endpoints, not just managed school devices.

Beyond simply blocking harmful content, the college wanted technology that could actively support its pastoral care model. Teachers and wellbeing staff needed timely, actionable insights that would allow them to have meaningful conversations with students about relationships, resilience, and healthy digital habits before concerns grew into serious problems. Solution

Galstaun College deployed Saasyan Assure, a cloud based monitoring and alerting platform, alongside the Saasyan On Premises Web Filter, creating a layered approach to digital safety that covered every device on the school network.

The On Premises Web Filter required no software installation on individual devices, making it practical for a school environment where BYOD and unmanaged endpoints are part of daily life. It inspected encrypted traffic, enforced Safe Mode across search engines and video platforms, and applied age appropriate content policies that could be configured by year level or time of day.

Saasyan Assure complemented this with real time intelligence that went well beyond filtering. Key capabilities included:

The deployment of Saasyan Assure transformed how Galstaun College approaches student safety and pastoral care across five meaningful dimensions.
